Solar Pump Background and Information

The energy created by the sun, commonly referred to as solar power, can be utilised in several of ways to convert the sun’s rays into electricity. With a solar water pump, solar energy is converted into electricity and fed to a pump which circulates water. Solar pumps can be used in borehole, swimming pools, fountains and larger agricultural projects for irrigation and pivot applications.

It is also ideally suited for the eco-friendly homes or homes in drought stricken areas which use boreholes for their water supply. The solar pump is one of the greatest solutions to the electricity problems in South Africa as it utilises the abundance of free energy which we receive each day from the sun.

Solar pumps are easy to install and require virtually no maintenance, and they can have a lifespan of roughly 20 years. This means that after the initial set up costs their serving costs are minimum.

The variable flow rate of the solar pump is largely determined by the strength and direction of the sun. You need to ensure that the specific solar water pump purchased meets the needs of your system and application.

The solar array collects the sun’s UV rays and converts it into usable electricity by means of a MPPT controller. The systems can also be fitted with an auxiliary AC input to accommodate generator or grid supply.
